Unique Properties

Client is a manufacturer of gold leaf. Instead of selling raw materials (thin gold leaves to craftsman or desert ingredients shops), we recommend client to develop a new brand that sell premium edible gold leaf to customers (expand the business model from B2B to B2C). We have designed a premium gift box for the new brand. The gift box is specially designed with glamour and elegance which is made of edible grade material. It comes with a bespoke tweezer to ensure easy application.

Production Technology

As AURUM is a new concept of product to market, luxurious touch is essential to be delivered to customers. The box structure and mechanics reference from luxurious jewelry packaging. The box is sealed by an anodized golden metal plate with brand name engraved, and the plate work as the magnetic lock for the packaging. For the outer texture, we used several gold foil stamping effects plus textured paper, with a touch of spot UV to create a unique hand touch. The package box is in several layers, top layer with a small ribbon to hold a small tweezer for pick up the gold leaf. Second layer is a translucent paper with brand name stamped, well protecting the prestige gold leaf, while at the same time create a higher class image for the product.

Design Challenge

Hardest part will be the structure and printing effect; as AURUM is a box of gold leaves, it is easily to associate the shininess and texture by applying gold foil printing on the packaging surface. However we would like to go further and more extra-ordinary, we use a matt texture paper and add silver foil on top, then go thru 4C printing on the foil to add on different gradient of gold colors on it. To ensure the color stay on silver foil is challenging.

Operation Flow

First we do a lot of market research about the gold leaves packaging, and we also research on varies food-grade material for the packaging. Also we have suggest to include a small tweezer for holding the tiny gold leaves (gold leaves are so feather weight that can be blown away easily)

Research

We've done a lot of research about the characteristics of gold leaves, e.g. manufacturing process, usage etc. Research are mainly collecting data and insight via internet.

Inspiration

With its special qualities of shininess and rareness, genuine gold leaves are traditionally representing prestigious, luxurious and high quality. Thus we would like to show these characteristics thru the packaging. The process of making gold leaves is by hammering a piece of gold for over 20,000 times, to obtain the finest quality and thinnest texture. For this reason, the gold foil graphics on packaging has an irregular shape to show the making of process of gold leaves. We also reference from the structure of jewelry boxes on the packaging box structure, in order to deliver the luxurious touch.
