The project integrates a main facade based on large windows that provide natural light, defined by unique photocatalytic krion 3D modules, which have the ability to purify the air thanks to their photocatalytic material. The design of the south facade integrates a treatment of photovoltaic louvers, that protect from the sun in the warmer months of the year and generate enough clean energy to power 1562 points of light running 4 hours a day for 35 years and avoid the emission of 196 tons of CO2.
The original building, from the '70s, was used for housing in the past and had several structural challenges. It had insufficient, altered pre-existing structure, with minimum floor heights and important deformations on the slabs that led to unevenness in a single floor of the order of 8cm. The current regulatory requirements called for creating new slabs openings for evacuation stairs and facility lines, making it necessary to replace the original stabilization core.
The project started in January 2020 and was completed in March 2021. It is located in Diagonal 525, Barcelona, Spain.
Naturgy's new headquarters symbolizes the transformation of his company, with new, more sustainable, flexible and collaborative work environments, and it houses the corporate services that the company has. The distribution of the workstations implemented in the building has been carried out according to the open space modality, with flexible, open and connected environments, and with a technology that allows total mobility of the employee. In addition, the new spaces are paperless, in line with the sustainability that the company is implementing in all its business lines.
The project has been developed using the latest BIM technology in the cloud for its complete coordination, integrating virtual models of architecture, engineering and interior design, in addition to the urban environment, generating a coordinated digital building.
The inspiration for this project was the concept of recovering an existing building to reform it and reduce its impact, providing greater sustainability and leaving a better tomorrow. The smooth and flowing forms of nature inspired the design of the building, breaking the traditional form of rigid vertical and horizontal lines, so that the building can be perceived as a pure and iconic element.
