Desk for Unika
A contemporary minimalist and very subtle piece that creates a light and effective workspace environment. It adapts to each space with elegance and with the idea of floating. As it is a piece with a minimal and thin profile, the surrounding elements, such as the floor, the decoration and many others, can all breathe and coexist in the same space. In this way the secretary emphasizes the concentration of work but in a relaxed way and without a heavy expression.

Delicated and thin profiles that always have empty spaces between the materials (structure and wood). Every material has its own space and identity, they never overlay each other. As it is a piece with a minimal and thin profile, the surrounding elements, such as the floor, the decoration and many others, can all breathe and coexist in the same space. The main materials are Metal frame and Azorean Wood slab. Nevertheless this desk is also producable in marble or stone (basaltic stone form azores) top slab and several colors for the metal frame as well finishes like matt and gloss.
Develop a minimalist solution that was able to fit in spaces of various dimensions without losing its elegance, having sufficient structural strength and also being able to receive several extras such as: invisible built-in wireless charging, built-in cable spots for electronic devices, built-in mouse pad, among others customizable.
Started in May 2020 and ended in September with a full company's office design project of 6 desks and several other pieces. Location : São Miguel Island- Azores, Portugal
This desk can be transported to its destination as well assembled in place. The top design is prepared to receive several extras features such as invisible built-in wireless charging, built-in cable spots for electronic devices, built-in mouse pad, among others customized items.
A rigorous study of the preparation of this desk was carried out with close monitoring and constant exchange of ideas between UNIKA and the local iron/steel artisans. We sought to achieve perfection in the finish of all delicate and fine profiles. It was also came to the conclusion how the wooden slab was better used and respected the metal structure.
As architects from the mystical Azorean islands, our work is always surrounded by nature, peace and tranquility. In our working method we always try to integrate all the elements, materials, decoration and everyday experience. The inspiration for this desk was the feeling of lightness we have when we are working with our laptops in an outdoor environment such as a balcony by the sea or in the middle of nature. Thin and elegant elements highlight the value of wood that float on metal structures.
