Medical Office Building for Daniel Ongaratto
The Vitra Tower is a medical office building with offices and clinical rooms with eleven floors, located on a corner lot in the city of Santo Angelo, in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. With a total of 22 private offices, the building sought an architecture that conveyed seriousness, bringing legitimacy to the services offered inside, but that was also pleasant and comfortable for users.

The architectural design of the Vitra Tower had the principle of producing a building that conveyed seriousness, due to the program of medical offices, but that was also pleasant to work with. In this way, we added a new element to the characteristic glass skin of commercial buildings: a large concrete grid that fills almost the entire facade of the project, with different spacings that contribute to bringing dynamism to the building.

For the project, we chose techniques, technologies and materials common to the interior region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The structural system of reinforced concrete was used, sealing in masonry walls, glass skin and external finishing in tile. In terms of materiality, concrete was also used for the facade grid, as well as wood in some points.
The challenge of this project was to seek an architecture that conveyed seriousness, to bring legitimacy to office rooms and health clinics, but that was also unconventional and pleasant for its users. A deep understanding of the master plan for the city of Santo Ângelo was also essential to develop a building that worked and also respected the city.
The project is located in the city of Santo Angelo, in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil. The project is under construction.
The project stands out for its search for a differentiated solution for a building intended for commercial use, bringing a language that conveys seriousness, but that is also pleasant and contemporary.
The project was based on a deep analysis of both the terrain's constraints, such as topography, solar orientation and interesting views, as well as the city's own urban legislation. Then, we went after architectural references that conveyed the same feeling we wanted to pass on: of a serious building, but comfortable and pleasant.
The project started from the client's need to build a office medical building that was differentiated from others of the same type. Thus, we seek inspiration both in conventional commercial buildings, studying ways to change the perception of conventional elements, as well as in the buildings themselves that have already succeeded in this same challenge.
