Art Installation for FunDesign.tv
When an art installation aims to represent a region or a community through design, it is impossible to be fully comprehensive. From the initial concept, the goal is to maximize public participation by inviting diverse voices and images that respond to the installation. Through online and social media networks, people could tag the exhibition on their Instagram stories, and people's stories have the potential to be included in the Story index. As the designs merge and become a part of the historical index, they break down barriers between reality and virtuality.

A story index is derived from the interdependence between mobile phones and people. Each frame in a story is a "designed" picture, whether it is active delivery, passive display, or interactive attraction. A giant screen matrix materializes the boundaries between reality and the Internet, and the scene reflects the appearance of people's current lives. Your own life will be displayed in the story index, as well as the lives of others.

Obviously, this device is basically built around a bunch of television screens, complemented by video integration equipment and network integration equipment. They designed an integrated system that simplifies management, from integrating community accounts to the input terminals for different videos on each television. They can monitor the back end, and after users upload content, they first screen out inappropriate content, then approve the content that has passed the review to be displayed on the front end, to avoid the bombardment of indecent and ineffective content.
In order to enable each television to play different signals, the originally used distributor only supported the copy function. Through software design, we have realized the possibility of outputting different signals on different ports, and the computer in the back end can meet the needs of reallocating or copying signals. Unfortunately, the current development technology has not yet reached the point where television screens can be directly integrated into a single screen. We hope that in the future, animated content can move freely among different screens.
The installation was set from 30.09.2022 to 23.10.2022 in Design Zone Kaohsiung Port Warehouse No. 6 of the Pier-2 Art Center, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
In this art installation, we display content from more than 5,000 accounts in design, architecture, fashion, food, meme, parent-child, Youth Bureau Of KCG, etc. By uploading real-time limited-time dynamic content and tagging the organizers, there is a chance to randomly appear on the giant screen matrix at the scene, thereby transforming the on-site participation into online promotion. This not only expands the display content database of art installations but also increases exposure and stimulates public interest in participating in the event and showcasing their personal social media on social platforms.
To connect with the audience, the creators of the STORY INDEX conducted online surveys and qualitative interviews with design students, professionals, and industry experts to explore the variety of designs in Taiwan. With over 5,000 responses, they decided to center the exhibition around the life segments people share on social media. A giant screen matrix was the focal point, amplifying public dialogue on the exhibition's themes.
During Taiwan Design EXPO, this is the central art installation for the entrance of the Youth Story exhibition. In order to make it viral, they created a big vision and linked it to real-life acts of young people. Considering People are constantly constrained by screens, they set a giant screen matrix to present the virtual world in reality. In addition to the physical scenery, innumerable network signals and stories are updated continuously around us 24 hours a day.
