Seat design, Non-heritage culture
Rattan weaving generally goes through a dozen or so processes, such as beating rattan (cutting off the knots and scars on the rattan), picking rattan, washing rattan, tanning rattan, arguing rattan, pulling rattan (planing rattan), chipping rattan, bleaching, dyeing, weaving, and lacquering. Rattan furniture, mainly the production of bracket and weaving surface weaving. With rough rattan production bracket, its bending shape can be used to bake and saw mouth bending two ways. Saw mouth bending method is simple, but the strength is weakened and the curve is not natural and smooth. The connection of the bracket is usually wrapped with rattan skin, and the basic method of weaving the surface with rattan skin on the bracket is three kinds of picking, covering and wrapping.
Styling&topology optimization calculation New paradigms based on AI algorithms have begun to infiltrate various industries that humans were once proud of, such as AI music arranging, AI painting, AI driving, and AI design. AI is attempting to replace the creativity that is uniquely human. So, how to deal with AI design? What role do AI algorithms play in the design process? In the design of this recliner, we tried to balance the relationship between human designers and AI algorithms, where human aesthetic concepts and human-machine comfort decided by the designers are the dominant and constraining principles, while the AI algorithms are strictly limited to secondary design on this basis. Under the premise of ensuring the mechanical system is well-built, the most economical use of materials is achieved.
The project started in April 2022 in Chongzhou and finished in January 2024 in Chengdu.
During the process, we used wire to construct the product structure. In order to reflect the soft and tough nature of rattan, we mostly used a closed-loop structure . On this basis, we also used the bi-directional topological computing software Ameba to iterate the structure, so as to improve the structure of the rattan chair, so that it not only conforms to the mechanical characteristics of the seat, but also meets our design aesthetic perception, so as to achieve the harmonization of the two.
