This project is an attempt to understand and interpret the exact history and culture of the centuries through various local organizations and scholars. Due to the size of the work produced, the project had to give up the textual interpretation of these events and scenes and use images that the general public or domestic and foreign travelers can understand. At the same time, Its location was a street with a constant flow of tourists, and the biggest challenge was how to make the artwork and the street become one, and to exhibit the artwork in a harmonious way.
The project started on October 17, 2023 in Taipei, Taiwan and was completed on February 10, 2024. It was exhibited at the 2024 Taipei Lantern Festival on February 17, 2024.
The art installation visualizes historical and cultural images, constructing an independent three-dimensional space. Through the interaction with people, it enables people to read the relevant history of the city and pass it on to the next generation through storytelling, forming an intangible inheritance of historical and cultural heritage.
The Red House, a historical building built during the Japanese rule era, is used as the main viewpoint for reading the development of Ximending, so the first metal installation of the Red House, which was built in 1908, is used as the starting point of the tunnel corridor. In total, there are eight sides of the tunnel gallery, each of which is chronologically placed with different images of the development of the Ximending area, telling the story of its own development.
The Lantern Festival is a highly anticipated and celebrated event in Taiwan. With the development of the times, this festival has slowly become one of the most important celebrations in the cities. In a modern city, providing a lively celebration that preserves the historical and cultural essence of the city has become a unique work of art. We use visual graphic installations to achieve this goal, At the same time, the installation can also decorate the streets with colors and increase the brightness of the lighting, and become a business card of the city.
