Mure Et Musc

Residence for TWM Interior Design

The owner chose a restrained, intellectual color palette, moving away from pastel or earthy tones. The space features calm greys and hints of wood, creating a balance between the strong personality of black and a comfortable, understated atmosphere. The designer kept the space minimal, using the natural textures of diatomaceous earth and RGB lighting to create changing layers of light. With no excess decoration, the space emphasizes purity, offering a peaceful retreat where one can find solace and calm.

Unique Properties

The expansive entrance enhances storage functionality while setting a dynamic tone for the space. A large TV wall, covered in pore-textured diatomaceous earth, creates a unique visual effect as light and shadow shift. The high and low ceiling design, along with RGB lighting, adds depth and vitality to the entrance. Dark base colors reflect the owner's strong, individualistic personality, while crossroad brick reflections and the warmth of diatomaceous earth provide texture. Wood veneer and glass further enrich the industrial style, softening the overall atmosphere.

Production Technology

Diatomaceous earth, crossroad bricks, wood veneer, and glass create unique textures and styles. The color scheme is a subtle transition of blacks, grays, and light colors. The pure colors come from the natural tones of the materials themselves. The black is presented by the ironwork and railway tiles. The gray is softly transitioned through diatomaceous earth. The lighter colors are brightened by glass and wood-grained flooring. This layering keeps the aesthetic of the space simple and refined.

Design Challenge

The designer faced the challenge of balancing aesthetics, and functionality and maintaining good neighborly relations before the owner moved in. During construction, the noise and movement were inevitable, potentially drawing attention from surrounding residents. To avoid negative perceptions, the designer ensured all construction activities were legal and compliant. Additionally, open communication with neighbors was key, clearly outlining the construction schedule and scope to prevent misunderstandings and maintain positive relationships with the community.

Project Duration

The project finished in March 2024 in Taiwan.

Operation Flow

The color palette and style of this well-designed space perfectly reflect the personality of the occupant. The dark color palette with RGB lighting enriches the layer and creates an unforgettable impression. Adequate storage allows the occupant to have numerous items without feeling overwhelmed, ensuring practicality and aesthetics. Overall, the design meets the aesthetic needs of the occupant and fulfills her functional needs in daily life.

Research

The 'Mure Et Musc' project blends strength with softness, inspired by the female owner's love for industrial style. She sought a deep, cold industrial aesthetic while desiring warmth and comfort in her home. The designer expertly integrated her bold personality with warm colors, balancing hard industrial elements. Diatomaceous earth adds natural texture, enhancing style and practicality. The spacious entrance enhances storage, while RGB lighting creates dynamic layers of light and shadow. Crossroad brick tiles, wood veneer, and glass reflect the owner's warm, introverted qualities.

Inspiration

The project serves a female who loves industrial style and yearns for a deep and cold industrial aesthetic that is warm and inviting. The designer was inspired to translate the style of the space. The project incorporates the owner's strong personality and unique taste. Warm colors balance the cold industrial elements, and then diatomaceous earth is introduced to create a stylish and practical living space. Hardness and softness are interwoven to create a unique and sophisticated living scene.
