The core concept that pervades the overall design of this refurbishment residential project is maximizing the living contentment for the younger generation, who are expected to grow up and become the heir of this property. Featuring indirect illumination, detailed selection of materials, and flexible furnishing throughout, the house is filled with thoughtful details and warm blessings toward the young ones.
Refurbishment, fenshui, ceiling shape, bird wing
Since this property is a gift to the young ones, the long-lasting, adaptive design is taken and realized in various of ways. Having in mind allergies in children, the overall interior is painted with Benjamin Moore zero VOC paint in 2019 color trend palette, trimmed with matching color tiles and anti-dust mite curtain. Able to sustain and adapt to children growth, all the furniture is detachable, repairable, and movable, hence the space for activities is maximized as well.
Layout restructure, combining with pipework rearrangement, is one of the biggest challenges from this project. To make the pre-existing centered guest restroom the new kid bedroom, it took huge amount of works to reroute and connect the pipelines. The other obstacle came from the support beam that was too low for comfort. To overcome this issue, it was then redesigned to have arched silhouette, yielding less perceivable pressure from above.
Finished in October 2019 in Taipei City, Taiwan.
Through reducing the usage of traditional lighting fixtures like recessed lights and track lights, illumination has been taking great care of to maximize comfort and relaxation. With indirect lighting such as wall lamp and strip light, the space is immersed in a pleasant ambience, while the linear track of light is placed as directional hint for guests to move along with. Doorways and hallways were broadened for kids to run freely, and the living room is equipped with home cinema and projector for a family movie time.
The restructure of the layout is conceived with the study of Feng shui. From the pre-existing layout, the guest restroom occupied the most important cardinal direction that represents prosperity and career success. In this ancient Chinese geomancy, studying at such place would make the learner mind clearer, enlightened, hence the learning efficiency doubled. After assessment and redesigning floor plan, the guest restroom was moved toward sides to make room for the kid bedroom, so that the Chi of success could be obtained by the children.
The overall design is inspired by the name of the host HSIANG, meaning flying high in Mandarin. This notion then was reinterpreted to the encouragement, a blessing to her offspring with great success. From the curvy ceiling design to the lamp on the dining room, curves that resemble wings and airflows can be seen everywhere. The bedroom is also decorated with flying themed wallpaper, with two gigantic paintings of birds to bring vitality to the grey toned room.
