Visitor Center for 慕达建筑 MUDA-Architects
The visitor center was conceived by MUDA-Architects to blend the indigenous spiritual and cultural heritage by respecting coastal and tropical nature ecology of Haikou. Due to the conspicuous location, it was proposed in a catchy shape of an oval pebble for conforming to the context and becoming a landmark to unfold the cityscape. A mirroring form of the local traditional roof was created as a shelter from the tropical climate. Glass curtain wall installed with undulating sunshades, was adopted for facade to save energy, correspond to the coastal feature and provide spacious view to visitors.

The building conformed to the tonality of the overall park planning, integrate into the natural landscape in a streamlined manner, and be harmonious with the surrounding areas.
Visitor Center, art, travelling, hospitality
The continuous roof with white composite aluminium sheet also unifies the indoor and outdoor space, and provides a place for people to have a rest and entertainment. The surrounding building facade adopts tempered hollow glass curtain wall, which makes the space more open and freer. The glass curtain wall of the facade is equipped with perforated aluminum sunshade, which is undulating, echoing the seaside culture, making the facade look more flexible, reducing the direct sunlight at the same time to achieve the purpose of energy saving.
The project site is in Haikou, Hainan Province, China. Now the design is completed and estimated date of completion in June,2020.
In terms of spatial layout, the building is elliptical, perfectly integrated with the streamline landscape of the site. The inner courtyard leaning to one side forms an obvious contrast relationship between the real and the virtual. As a transitional space for tourists to enter the interior, it is shared internally and externally.
In this project, MUDA-Architects designed the tourist center is like an oval pebble washed by the sea. It is inlaid at the entrance of the park and integrates with the surrounding landscape environment. It becomes a part of the natural landscape and creates a good visual experience and ecological building environment.
