Sybarite Ballerina ring is a fascinating piece of design. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen fairytale The Steadfast Tin Soldier, the ring alludes to the relationship between the eponymous Tin Soldier and the ring is namesake Paper Ballerina. Sybarite has capitalized on the craftsmanship of their team excellently, as the piece is precious stone mechanical movement shows the Ballerina spinning as if she were truly alive with each movement of the wearer.

Unique Properties
It is much better to see a ballerina whirling in dance than to guess about it in a static piece. A unique mechanism has been developed specifically for this ring which allows the Ballerina ring to rotate from the slightest movement of the hand.

Production Technology
The model developed itself in the 3D Matrix program for the jewellery industry based on the Rhinoceros program. To achieve result before production starts, we created a video of the model. After figurine was grown by prototyping on a 3D printer from wax, then cast in two colours of gold. They were meticulously processed by hand (using polishing jewellery threads, which were used to cut each hole under the stone, for the perfect shine of the rocks). After that, 223 precious stones were fixed into the base product and only then the parts were connected into a single figure.
Design Challenge
The most challenging part is to combine the design with the technical and mechanical part, having integrated the mechanism there and making the ring light, ergonomic and at the same time elegant and wearable. The rotary mechanism is intricate and small, so when it was installed it was crucially important that not a single dust particle makes its way into the mechanism, for its flawless function.
Project Duration
The project started in April 2017 in London and finished in November 2019 in London. The overall process of production, improvements and quality check took about two years. The ring was privately exhibited at The Ritz London.
Operation Flow
The ring has a unique rotary kinetic mechanism that shows the movement of the ballerina - however that is not all. The ring itself The The ring stands on a double-flip coin base, allowing it to look like a small sculpture, in addition to the piece is function as a beautiful wearable object.
Research
Following a career as an architect and engineer. My ambition was to craft pieces that were not just beautiful to look at but were also works of art in their own right. It made sense to join together the worlds of design, engineering and art, to create the jewellery that I wanted going further to find ways of introducing kinetic effects, hidden secrets and surprising features that made each piece a joy to own.
Inspiration
For generations, children have fallen in love with Hans Christian Andersen tale of the Tin Soldier. In the tale, the titular character is a cast with one leg missing as the maker ran out of metal. He meets a beautiful, delicate paper ballerina who wears a gilt brooch on her sash, and the two form a bond that has inspired romance for generations. In my piece, Ballerina I recreated this legend of doomed romance in exquisite detail.The ring has a unique kinetic mechanism that shows the movement of the ballerina.
