Nightscape Design for Alex Xu & Partners
This project was designed in Jan 2018 and opened business in Dec 2019. Regarding to the traditional culture of local ethnic minority and the theme of antique building style of the hotel group, designers layout lighting plan by unearthing the concept of “symbiosis between architecture and people” and pursuing a sense of ritual symmetry in the central axis.

Unique Properties
The project is in Kunming, an ancient city with multi-ethnic culture, and the buildings adopt ancient Chinese architectural style. The Lighting designers adopt warm white tone as the main color and use customized lighting to reflect local culture and the architecture. The lighting color temperature is uniformly 3000K while the brightness is graded based on different nodes, creating a refined, warm atmosphere at night.

Production Technology
The lighting designers adopts warm white tone as the main color and use the washing and blooming effect of wall washer, small-sized spotlight as well as customized lighting to create a refined, special atmosphere at night.
Design Challenge
Lighting are modern things. How to use the lighting without destroying the overall ancient charm is the main obstacle of this project. The designers customized the luminaries to match the ancient charm of the architecture.
Project Duration
The project started in January 2018 in Shenzhen and finished in December 2019 in Kunming, Yunnan Province of China.

Research
In terms of brightness, the brightness level is determined according to different nodes, and the brightness level is determined separately to avoid monotony and dullness due to similar brightness, forming an overall focused, bright, dominant and subordinate night landscape for the human body The most comfortable visual experience.
Inspiration
The buildings adopt ancient Chinese architectural style, which upholds the idea of "symbiosis between architecture and people" and pursues axially symmetrical sense. The designers drew inspiration from these features to express the lighting.
