The new terminal is designed in Russian constructivist style. The imposing ceiling in the lounge is a representation of the supremacist style of El Lissitzky which he called Proun, "the stage where someone changes from painting to architecture". By adopting the architectural columns in the ceiling design it was possible to divide the lounge into zones. The large mirror wall at the end of the lounge makes the movement become infinite. Unique Properties
The inspiration for the lounge is artist and architect El Lissitzky. The geometric shapes in his paintings are reflected in the design of the interior. The imposing ceiling is a representation of direction and movement, inspired by the graphic art of El Lissitzky. By applying a large mirror wall at the end of the lounge, the movement become infinite. El Lissitzky: All is well that begins well and has no end.

Production Technology
A 3D model stood as base for creating the ceiling in the right form and dimensions. The construction columns are part of the total design approach. The ceiling elements have the same dimensions and repeat several times and this construction is optimal for installing the HVAC installation and led-lighting. A special metal construction principle is produced to position the ceiling elements at the correct height and shape. The used materials are natural and sustainable.
Design Challenge
The goal was to create an oasis of tranquility within the hectic everyday life at the international airport of Moscow. Despite the demand for more than 160 seats, the lounge must be inviting and offer space for every individual. By creating zones and integrating the architectural columns, it was possible to create a space that meets the requirements and also offers sufficient space. The requirements for personal safety and fire protection are high on airports. The challenge was to realize the entire program, including the 160 seats, on a limited surface.

Design phase: January until June 2019 Building period: December 2019 until November 2020
Operation Flow
The lay out of the lounge with the zoning and partition provide an open space with enough privacy for each visitor, for relaxing, working; eat and meet. The facade gives a beautiful view on the airport platform, with special relax seats. The bar in the middle and the dining area at the back. The end wall of the lounge is a mirror so it reflects the lounge and the ceiling like an endless picture.
Research
The design of the new terminal is based on Russian constructivism. The well-known architects and artists of this movement are the inspiration for the lounges. The graphic design PROUNS of El Lissitzky were the basis for the design language in the lounge, the ceiling design is a direct derivative of this.
Inspiration
An airport lounge is in fact like a large hotel lobby. It's all about hospitality, it's about atmosphere, comfort, experience and well-being for an international audience who has little to do with each other, but have the same goal, whether it is a journey or a performance. A home away from home. The design is made with sustainable products, timeless and iconic.
