Wall A2 is a freestanding TV stand with casters permitting placement anywhere in the room. A variety of TVs from different manufacturers can be installed at any height without the need to drill a hole in the wall and the viewing angle, orientation, and position can be easily changed by hand. The design focuses on the flexibility of installation for easy adaptation to the living environment and preferences of the viewer. The 7-shaped stand gives a sensation as if the TV screen is emerging out of the surroundings and enhances the viewer's immersive audio-visual experience.

WALL A2 is a freestanding TV stand with casters. Its compact size and shape allow an easy installation anywhere in a room. A variety of TVs from different manufacturers can be installed at any height without the need to drill holes in the wall. The viewing angle, orientation and position can be easily changed by hand. The design focuses on flexibility of installation for an easy adaptation to the living environment and preferences of the users.

Production Technology

WALL A2 features a simple 7-shaped design that fits to the modern aesthetic principles. For easy manufacturing and assembly, the structure was simplified to the limit consisting of a steel pipe welded to a plate. The circular base and TV mounting frame were secured with screws. Satin powder coating was applied to the entire body, and a woodgrain finish was baked on the surface of the supporting pillar giving a texture of high-quality furniture.

Design Challenge

WALL A2 will be placed in various places away from a wall, it was necessary to minimize its appearance and reduce the installation space needed. To achieve both compact size and stability, the balance of the center of gravity of this TV stand was calculated and verified multiple times in a lab that can simulate the strongest earthquakes in Japan. The low-profile casters we contribute to enhance its stylish design, resulting in an impressive base thinness of 26 mm.

Project Duration

The project started in May 2021, and its development was completed in June 2022. The product was put into the market in August 2022.

Operation Flow

WALL A2 can accommodate TVs (from 24 to 80 inch) from various manufacturers. It provides a 5-level height adjustment, and the casters allow an easy mobility. The ‘7’-shaped stand gives a sensation as if the TV screen is emerging out of the surroundings and enhances the viewers immersive audio-visual experience. Optional shelves are provided to accommodate peripheral devices and all the cables run inside the supporting pillar hidden from outside.

Research

The ever-increasing diversity of viewing styles prompted us to rethink if the conventional stationary TV benches and stands could cover the needs of all users. WALL A2 was conceived as a proposal to address such needs: a TV stand that can placed anywhere in a house to suit the preferred viewing style and living environment. Thus, we created a TV stand that has a compact and stylish shape, can be placed anywhere, can have its height adjusted, and allow the direction of the screen to be changed.

Inspiration

TVs are no longer just for watching TV programs, but have become personal devices for enjoying a variety of entertainment such as streaming, games, and online fitness programs. TV stands should allow anyone to place a TV anywhere in a room according to the viewing preference if the users rather than to spatial requirements. In response to this idea, we started the project to develop a TV stand that would provide a high degree of freedom for installing a TV.
