The Golden Butterfly Chair is an original household product jointly developed by Professor Ko-Fei Chang and Wingstone Casa; it took up 6 months of time from the proposal confirmation to factory implementation with countless of adjustment and modifications during the process to finally end up with the Golden Butterfly Chair. The Golden Butterfly Chair, as its name implies, originated from butterflies in nature; dancing butterflies are graceful, and the form of their flying wings is wonderful.

Production Technology
After the black body has been completed, we were certain that the product color is an important step, and in order to complete the designer’s pursuance towards the sense of nature and time, we developed many colors and compared them with the most natural color presentation with butterflies, each product requires more than 13 procedures of spray painting craftsmanship by hand to eventually perfectly demonstrate the unique temperament of the Golden Butterfly Chair from within.
Design Challenge
The project went through 2 factory replacements during the implementation process, and the work was only perfectly actualized when it encountered the third factory. A degree of difficulty exists for the craftsmanship of the Golden Butterfly Chair, resulting in an extremely high demand towards the level of production experience, the brand and the designer needed to take on all types of pressure during the implementation process in order to re-confirm the collaborative company.
Project Duration
Proposal confirmation in March 2019. Market launch in September 2019.
Operation Flow
The first three stages of the work development were the initial phase for the proposed design. The designer sketched ideas on paper, and that was the first presentation of the product, this was the stage with vague ideas, where the designer’s imagination was not restricted with the lines, and each sketched draft line was the combination of the inevitable and the occasional, whereas the work will enter the second presentation as the construction of prototype when the feeling was confirmed.
Research
The Golden Butterfly Chair is of metal, which can be inherited for all eternity with an extremely low damage rate, all coatings for the product are eco-friendly paint, capable of guaranteeing sustainable development of the society while completing the artistic creation. The seating pad for the work has adopted microfiber material as we reject the use of genuine leather, and the brand further employs artificial materials.
Inspiration
The Golden Butterfly Chair, as its name implies, originated from butterflies in nature; dancing butterflies are graceful, and the form of their flying wings is wonderful. The designer advocates to introduce the vitality of nature to the household living, hence the ultimate iconic style element was abstractly refined from a butterfly, such as the silhouettes, the patterns of the wings and even the color of the organism, which was further reshaped and structured to create this piece of work.
