Restaurant for Hangzhou TEMPs Interior Design Co., Ltd.
The designers intend to create a space where diners can chat and dine happily. A scene-based method is used to complete the design of Chu Yan Restaurant. The overall design is connected by the image of the unfolded scroll on the ceiling of the corridor, which is a very typical Chinese impression. It is not only a restaurant but also a spiritual space, which brings together the publicity, education, and multiple functions of Chinese catering culture.

Located at Shiliupu Wharf, the most famous wharf on the Bund in Shanghai, the project site has a history of 150 years which used to be the largest dock, carrying many historical and cultural memories of Shanghai. As a cultural output of upscale business hospitality and banquet, the whole project has a more complete expression of the culture through interior design.

At the entrance, a large LED wall shows the view of the Huangpu River in real-time. Taken the elevator to each floor, the functional areas as individual guest areas, private rooms, and the waiting area come into being. The tough lines and the marble wall complement each other, and various art decorations and murals can also be seen everywhere.
The transformation and renovation are carried out based on the original building structure. In the lobby on the ground floor, various Chinese beams in the original building have brought great restrictions to design. For the beam that is too low, the design team uses a new type of corrugated material on the top surface to solve the problem of the insufficient height of the entire floor. Horizontally, natural gray and wood-grain marble are used to decorate the wall to extend the vision. Finally, the overall effect of the space is like an unfolded Chinese scroll.
The project was designed in April 2018 and finished in July 2019 in Shanghai, China.
Artificial marble is adopted in the project, which is more environmentally friendly, lighter, and easier to install and use than marble. What's more, insulating glass and laminated glass are used to block noise and transmit light, which can cooperate with indoor air conditioning to save energy. Various sound-absorbing panels and sound-absorbing coatings are applied to decorate the room and reduce noise.
It is not only a restaurant but also a spiritual space, which brings together the publicity, education, and multiple functions of Chinese catering culture. The overall design is connected by the image of the unfolded scroll on the ceiling of the corridor, which is a very typical Chinese impression.
The restaurant design is inspired by a banquet poem in the Book of Songs, which describes the scene where people have a great dinner time. The designers intend to create a space where diners can chat and dine happily. A scene-based method is used to complete the design of Chu Yan Restaurant.
