Residence for Wu-Su Interior Design

The residence's first impression is its curves, like a melody lingering in every corner and connecting each area. The curved foyer screen opens like arms welcoming visitors, while white columns symbolize a forest. Half circle marble pieces resemble distant mountain ridges, and titanium plated stones evoke sunlight through the forest. These curves aren't just decorative but communication between the designer and homeowner, linking the home like chapters and offering a feast for the eyes and spirit.

Unique Properties

Mountain Imagery: The foyer sets the first impression, with flowing lines echoing the mountain views outside. Despite a screen, the openwork design and bright space create a sense of openness. The hills are visible from both inside and out, blurring the boundaries between the home and nature. Rhythmic Guidance: The second focus is the rhythm of the space. Smooth curves undulate along the walls, connecting the living room, dining room, light meal bar, and passageway. The curves unify the indoors and outdoors, enhancing the visual and tactile flow throughout the home.

Production Technology

Materials: marble, solid wood, artistic tiles, iron parts, Swedish Bolon carpet, glass tiles, special paint, etc. Used a large area of pure white as the base to pave a minimalistic and elegant atmosphere. To avoid monotonous colors, the designer cleverly used beige to shape a gradient effect, adding soft layers to the pure white space. The facades are divided into different areas using segmentation. In response to the owner's fondness for white, the surface of the building materials is coated with a UV-resistant coating to slow down the yellowing of the materials due to time and sunlight.

Design Challenge

The designer planned the bathrooms of the two master bedrooms in a meticulous pattern to ensure that they meet accessibility requirements. Uniform floor heights allow occupants to pass through without the risk of injury. In addition, to create a quiet and cozy living space, the designer installed hidden sliding doors on both sides. When open, the sliding door is integrated with the partition and does not occupy the space of the corridor; when closed, it can effectively block the noise and ensure privacy.

Project Duration

The project finished in January 2024 in Taiwan.

Operation Flow

The owner is very satisfied with the overall atmosphere. In addition to the color palette that matches their personal preferences, it is more important that it combines art and personal stories. To further enhance the artistic ambiance of the corridor, the designer covered the wall with metal tiles and defined it as a photo wall. The texture of the metal tiles echoes the softness of the curves. The shimmering effect can bring out the elegant personality. Each area is carefully planned to suit the occasion.

Research

The site is an old apartment, named 'Chantilly' for the owner's love of white and the mountain views. The designer incorporated natural elements and the owner's passion for music. The foyer blends modernity with mountain imagery as if surrounded by the curves of nature. Curved designs dominate the space, transforming hard materials into flexible forms, achieving harmony between nature and movement. Like a concert, the curves flow through every corner, using stone, metal, wood, and mirrors to recreate the outdoor landscape indoors, allowing the owners to enjoy nature's beauty in a comfortable home.

Inspiration

The inspiration came from the owner's preference for white. The designer used this as the main color, and with the expansive view of the mountains (or clouds and mists) from the windows, he incorporated natural elements into the interior. With a deeper understanding of the owner's lifestyle, the designer realized his connection with music. The project incorporates the rhythm of curves. Each space is connected by curves yet independent from the other, just like the chapters of a concert, presenting them sequentially for the visual and auditory enjoyment of the people.
