WoodFire, a new bone series inspired by the raw beauty of fire-kissed wood, comes from the silky-rich soil of Dehua, China. This collection is brought to life through a two-part reactive glaze, creating distinctive, organic patterns that echo the transformative effect of fire on wood. Meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans, each ceramic piece is a unique work of art. WoodFire is thoughtfully shaped with fluid, organic curves that evoke the natural movement of wood, enhancing rustic charm while maintaining exceptional durability. Available in two rich hues - Dark Oak and Antique Pine - each shade radiates bold character, as if reborn from the flames. Modern and rustic, WoodFire offers timeless appeal for everyday dining and special occasions.

Production Technology
WoodFire is crafted from Luzerne's signature blend of clay sourced from Dehua, China, known for its purity and durability. Its production involves hand moulding, followed by the creation of a plaster master mould. Our specially formulated clay is then shaped using a casting technique that integrates both craftsmanship and automation. The glazing process employs a handcrafted, two-part reactive glaze technique to create unique, organic patterns mimicking the effect of fire on wood, and ensuring no two pieces are alike. The glaze not only enhances visual appeal but also adds protection against stains and scratches. Sculpted with fluid, subtle curves, each item evokes the natural movement of wood.
Design Challenge
The glazing effect of the WoodFire collection is usually found only in small pottery studios. However, we have successfully replicated this design in our factory using machinery for mass production. Despite the industrial process, each piece is unique, ensuring that no two are alike. This approach preserves the distinctive qualities and artistry of handcrafted pottery.
Project Duration
The project started in March 2023 and finished in February 2024 in Singapore.
Operation Flow
Users operate the tableware by placing food or beverages on/in the objects, such as plates, bowls, or cups. Its operation is simple and intuitive, designed for serving and consuming food. WoodFire transforms in its use and presentation. Items can be stacked for storage, and used interchangeably . For example, bowls can be served on different plates, and cups can be paired with different saucers depending on the setting. WoodFire’s rimmed surfaces ensure comfortable handling and stability when in use, whether for dining or serving.
Research
The primary focus of this project was to achieve a one-of-a-kind, authentic wood-like appearance for the WoodFire collection. Research centered on glaze techniques, leading to the use of a handcrafted, two-part reactive glaze method. Numerous tests and trials were conducted to refine this technique, ensuring a finish that embodies the natural essence of wood with artisanal craftsmanship.

Drawing from the timeless beauty of wood, each piece is a unique work of art that embodies the strength and elegance of fire-kissed timber.
