Unique Properties
WineStax is a wine rack which adapts to the user's needs and space. One unit carries up to three bottles and can be easily expanded up to ten units. Thanks to this expansible system every user has the freedom to tailor the wine rack to their interior while the product gives a subtle highlight to the wine collection. The racks connect with metal clips therefore the joints are unnoticeable. The hexagonal shapes give an ethereal and sophisticated appearance to the product.

Production Technology
The product has 4 main parts: 2 pieces of triple-hexagonal elements, a connecting pole with screw thread on both ends and additional metal clips which ensure the connection between the units.
Design Challenge
The aim was to create a compact but expandable wine rack system while keeping the material usage and the productional costs low. During the research phase the goals have been expanded by including high aesthetic values and reduced packaging size. The purpose of these goals is to develop an affordable designer item and taking care of the sustainable aspects of the product.
Project Duration
The project started in 2020 and the final product has been launched on the dutch market in September 2021.
Operation Flow
The product packaging contains a pole with threaded ends, two triple-hexagonal elements and the unit connecting clips. In the centre point of the hexagonal shapes there's a threaded hole. Simply screw the hexagonal elements to the end of the poles by hand and lay the bottles in the hexagonal shapes. Assemble another unit, place it next to the first one, align the hexagonal sides and pinch them together with the clips. The rack can be extended in length and height by further units.
Research
During explanatory and trend research the focus point was to bring alive our vision: creating a highly engaged, innovative home accessory which answers to a specific demand and its positioning in a hidden market gap. Our analysis focused on identifying everyday needs in our environment that haven't been fulfilled yet, and this process led us to the idea of a collectible and extendible wine rack.
Inspiration
The initiative of this project was to develop an innovative product for retail promotions to achieve driving repeat purchase behavior by making it highly collectible. This core idea has manifested in a useful home accessory, called WineStax. Each product is an independent unit with three bottle racks, but the units can be easily connected to each other. Therefore the system allows the user to expand his WineStax almost endlessly and this stackable wine rack can easily fit into any household.
Project Overview
WineStax Stackable Wine Rack has been a Silver winner in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design award category in the year 2021 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Silver A' Design Award celebrates top-tier designs that embody excellence and innovation. This award acknowledges creations that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional, reflecting the designer's deep understanding and skill. Silver A' Design Award recipients are recognized for their contribution to raising industry standards and advancing the practice of design. Their work often incorporates original innovations and elicits a strong emotional response, making a notable impact on the improvement of everyday life.
