Visual Identity System for Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia is based on A letter as a focus. A stands for Alinari and is an abstraction of a camera lens. The form is a container in which the photos of the huge historical archive can be shown. All the items are designed with this concept. It is mainly a black and white brand, with a 3 colour secondary palette taken form the daguerreotype photos.

Brand Design and hole visual identity for "Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia", the new body founded in Florence by the Tuscany Region for the conservation, management and promotion of the Alinari photographic collections. Its birth marks a new beginning in the long history of the archive (from 1852).

The main purpose of the foundation is to promote a widespread culture of photography, starting with the Alinari collections, while preserving their authentic historical and cultural value, their physical integrity, and guaranteeing the best conditions for increased awareness of and access to them. So the design had to reflect the long history behind and at the same time to stand out from the previous brand.
The project started in October 2020 in Florence (Italy) and it is still going on.
It's a brand identity project to identificate a new public subject.
The previous brand was a private subject. The new one is a public institution held by Tuscany Region which recognised the exceptional cultural value of the Alinari holdings and resolved to purchase them and began an operation of cultural policy and investment, which has saved this archive, one unique in the world for its size and value, from dispersal and dismemberment, while also guaranteeing its future use and accessibility.
The term photography comes from a Greek compound word, light and handwriting, literally "writing with light". Brand features are: Sculptural lettering, Black and white (light and shadow), Accent on "Alinari" word, Focus on the letter A (lowercase, as abstraction of the camera lens). The A is photo container to represent the huge and historical Alinari archive.
Fondazione Alinari Brand Identity has been a Silver winner in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design award category in the year 2020 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Silver A' Design Award celebrates top-tier designs that embody excellence and innovation. This award acknowledges creations that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional, reflecting the designer's deep understanding and skill. Silver A' Design Award recipients are recognized for their contribution to raising industry standards and advancing the practice of design. Their work often incorporates original innovations and elicits a strong emotional response, making a notable impact on the improvement of everyday life.
